You can imagine my surprise when I came across this painting in Buckingham Palace. Ever since my trip to Greece where I learned about Pythagoras sacrificing Veggies instead of animals and being an early advocate of vegetarianism I've had an affinity with him. This Ruebens painting almost made the price of admission worthwhile. Here's the kicker, though -
The minute losses from the surface of the painting were filled with a putty of chalk and fish glue
I'm sure Ruebens & Pythagoras would be rolling over in their graves at this bit of stupidity from the Royal Conservationists...
